San Jose Women Arrested for Smuggling Vietnamese Tropical Fruit

Two San Jose women, Hanh Hong Huynh and Thanh Tuyen Huynh, are facing felony charges for illegally importing tropical fruit from Vietnam. They allegedly concealed their activities by mislabeling shipments as tea or coffee. The women were found to be shipping large quantities of fruit regularly, with some shipments containing hundreds of pounds of fruit. The fruit tested positive for eggs of an invasive fruit fly. This case marks the first felony prosecution for illegally importing fruit in violation of the Food and Agriculture Code.
