Tennessee Man Convicted for Assaulting Police Officer and Capitol Breach on Jan. 6

Ronald McAbee, a former sheriff's deputy, was found guilty of assaulting a police officer during the January 6th Capitol riot. McAbee claimed he was trying to protect the officer and alert police to an unconscious protester, but multiple officers testified that he prevented them from rescuing the injured officer. Body-camera footage showed McAbee repeatedly hitting the officer while rioters surrounded them. McAbee was convicted on five charges, including assaulting an officer and civil disorder. The officer testified that he feared for his life during the attack and suffered injuries, including a concussion and head wounds.
