Three Philly Officers Wounded in Wynnefield Shootout; Suspect Dead

Three Philadelphia police officers were shot and a suspect was killed in Wynnefield after responding to reports of gunfire at 54th and Arlington. The officers — a sergeant with eight years on the force, and two others with eight and two years — were hospitalized in stable condition with injuries to the face, hip and leg. The suspect, a 57-year-old man reportedly a retired firefighter, died at Jefferson Hospital. Investigators recovered about 50 pieces of ballistic evidence; preliminary information indicates the suspect was not connected to the original shooting under investigation.
