Virginia Boy's Mother Sentenced to 2 Years for Child Neglect After Teacher Shooting

Deja Taylor, the mother of a 6-year-old boy who shot his first-grade teacher in Virginia, has been sentenced to two years in prison for felony child neglect. Taylor's son shot his teacher with her handgun, which he accessed by climbing onto a dresser and reaching into her purse. The boy concealed the weapon in his backpack and then his pocket before shooting the teacher in front of her class. Taylor initially claimed she had secured the gun with a trigger lock, but investigators found no evidence of one. The teacher suffered injuries to her hand and chest and has since left teaching.
