Virginia Sheriff and Businessmen Indicted for Federal Bribery Charges

Culpeper County Sheriff Scott Jenkins and three businessmen have been indicted on federal charges of conspiracy, wire fraud, and bribery concerning programs receiving federal funds. Jenkins is accused of accepting cash bribes and large donations to his reelection campaign in exchange for appointing the businessmen as auxiliary deputy sheriffs. The indictment also alleges that Jenkins pressured a judge and employees to process a petition to restore one of the businessmen's gun rights. Jenkins and the businessmen were arrested and released on personal recognizance.
