Denver shuts Ultra Lounge East after deadly mass shooting and licensing woes

Denver officials suspended Ultra Lounge East’s liquor and entertainment licenses and ordered the Southeast Denver nightclub to close after a mass shooting July 20 left one dead and eight wounded. The club has a history of violence on the property and licensing violations, including unlicensed food/hookah service and disputed ownership of the licenses, prompting the immediate shutdown with a Sept. 11 hearing to challenge the suspension. This marks the third time this year the city has issued a summary suspension against a venue.
