Florida Teacher Investigated for Showing Disney Movie with Gay Character to Students

A Florida teacher is being investigated by the state Department of Education for showing her fifth-grade students Disney's 2022 movie "Strange World," which features an openly gay character. The teacher, Jenna Barbee, claims a school board member reported her for showing the movie, but Barbee says it tied into her students' Earth science lesson and did not have sexually inappropriate content. Florida educators are prohibited from teaching about gender and sexual identity due to the Parental Rights in Education Act, signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis last year.
