Georgia’s USG chief steps down as chancellor, launching nationwide search

USG Chancellor Sonny Perdue announced his retirement after more than four decades in public service, with the Board of Regents launching a national search for his successor and Perdue remaining in the post until a replacement is named. In four years at the helm, he oversaw record enrollment, affordability efforts, campus modernization and expanded health‑care and workforce education, including support for Georgia’s HOPE and DREAMS scholarship programs and systemwide initiatives to improve access and outcomes.
