"Rutgers University Faculty Launch Historic Strike Over Contract Dispute"

Three faculty unions representing around 9,000 workers at Rutgers University went on strike Monday morning, the first time in the institution's 250-year history. The unions said they had been trying to renegotiate a contract for at least a year but that the university was blocking their attempts. Negotiations between the administration and the unions had resulted in "significant and substantial progress," according to Rutgers president Jonathan Holloway, who said he was disappointed by the unions' decision to go on strike. New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy invited both sides to his office in Trenton to negotiate an end to the impasse.
