Rutgers graduates killed in Spring Street subway crash identified as close friends
Malaika Chitre and Navam Kaul, two 24-year-old recent Rutgers University graduates from New Jersey, were killed when a southbound No. 4 train struck them at Manhattan’s Spring Street station early Sunday morning. The pair, described by friends as close companions who moved in the same social circles, were found sitting on the tracks around 3:15 a.m. Chitre had recently begun a career in quality operations and pharmacy studies, while Kaul worked as a financial data analyst. Investigators are probing whether intoxication or disorientation caused the incident, as no suicide notes were found.
