UMich taps Cybele Raver as next president, pending board vote
The University of Michigan Board of Regents named Vanderbilt provost and chief academic officer C. Cybele Raver as its pick to become the university’s 17th president; a Sept. 1 special meeting will decide the appointment, which would take effect Dec. 1 if approved. Raver is a renowned developmental psychologist and AAAS fellow who has led Vanderbilt’s academic enterprise since 2021, overseeing a $1B+ annual research budget, eight new deans, the launch of the College of Connected Computing, and expansion of Vanderbilt’s footprint to multiple cities. Her prior roles include NYU deputy provost and faculty positions at Chicago and Cornell, with a Yale PhD. The search was conducted with Spencer Stuart, and President Domenico Grasso will stay on through Nov. 30 to ensure a smooth transition.
