"Air Quality Concerns Rise in Upper Midwest Due to Wildfire Smoke"

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has issued an air quality advisory for almost all of the state due to smoke from wildfires in Canada polluting the air. Air quality alerts are issued when air quality becomes unhealthy to inhale, usually due to particulate matter and high-levels of ground-level ozone pollution. While it is safe for most people to go outside during an alert, sensitive groups should be extra cautious. The fires in Canada are thought to have started in late April and grew more severe in early May, and are causing hazy skies in Wisconsin.
