"Radioactive Water Leak at Minnesota Nuclear Plant Prompts Ongoing Clean-Up"

Xcel Energy's Monticello nuclear power plant in Minnesota leaked 400,000 gallons of radioactive water containing tritium, which was reported to state and federal authorities in November but only made public on Thursday. The company said the leak posed no danger to the public and that the water remained contained on its property. Xcel has recovered about 25% of the spilled tritium so far and is considering building above-ground storage tanks to store the contaminated water it recovers. Japan is also preparing to release treated radioactive wastewater into the sea from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.
