"US EPA's $100 Million Grant Initiative Revolutionizes Recycling Efforts"

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has launched a major recycling initiative with $100 million in grants, marking its first significant effort in recycling and waste management in 30 years. The agency aims to achieve a 50% recycling rate by 2030, compared to the current rate of around 32%. Only about 5% of plastic waste is currently recycled. The EPA has selected 25 communities to receive over $70 million in grants to improve their recycling facilities, and an additional $32 million will be offered to states and territories to implement their own waste management plans. The grants range from $500,000 to $4 million for communities and from $360,000 to $750,000 for states and territories. The initiative aims to address the decline in U.S. plastic recycling rates and the increase in plastic waste.
