Illinois DMV Introduces Skip-the-Line Program with Required Appointments

The Secretary of State's office in Illinois has been using the term "DMV" to refer to its driver facilities, which offer services similar to those provided by DMVs in other states. However, Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias clarified that Illinois has not created a new Department of Motor Vehicles. The use of "DMV" is simply a way to specifically refer to the services offered at each location. The office has launched the Skip-The-Line initiative, which requires appointments at most driver facilities in the Chicago area to reduce wait times and streamline operations. In-person visits at the busiest facilities will now require appointments, except for the Secretary of State's Loop site. Vehicle-related services like title and registration or license plate renewal do not require appointments. The office is also encouraging residents to access routine services online.
