Addressing America's Maternal Mortality Crisis: Nonprofits and Communities Take Action.

The US has a maternal health crisis with a 40% increase in maternal mortality in 2021, with 84% of deaths being preventable. Black women are twice as likely to die from maternal causes. Experts believe the Covid-19 pandemic may have contributed to the spike. The US has ten or more times the rate of pregnancy-related death than peer nations. Women died from high blood pressure, infections, hemorrhage, blood clots, strokes, and medical negligence. Racist negligence also plays a role in the higher rate of maternal mortality among Black women. The anti-choice movement and the Dobbs regime pose a moral hazard to women's health.
