Examining America's Failures in COVID Response

Over 30 experts from various fields have written a book titled "Lessons from the COVID War," reviewing the US's mistakes during the pandemic and suggesting ways to avoid similar ones in the future. The book uses military metaphors, arguing that COVID should have been attacked like a foreign invasion, but the nation's leaders were absent from the battlefield. The experts found that the US went into a 21st-century pandemic with a 19th-century system and came out of it retaining the 19th-century structure. The lack of data and data-sharing, outdated public health data systems, and weak institutions were some of the biggest failures of the pandemic.
