FDA cautious about OTC birth control pill availability

FDA scientists expressed skepticism about whether the birth control pill can be switched from prescription to over-the-counter, citing concerns about whether women can follow the package's instruction label and take the medication correctly. The FDA staff noted that Opill's maker had not provided sufficient data and questioned the reliability of all of the actual use data. HRA Pharma, which makes Opill, expects the agency could make a final decision by the end of the summer.
