Medicaid Expansion Reduces Racial Disparities in Health Insurance: Report

Medicaid expansion has reduced the number of uninsured people in the US and narrowed racial gaps in health insurance coverage, according to a report from The Commonwealth Fund. The coverage gap between Black and white adults and between Hispanic/Latino and white adults shrank between 2013 and 2021. States that adopted the Medicaid expansion saw higher rates of insurance coverage and healthcare access than non-expansion states. However, the Hispanic/Latino population still has the highest uninsured rate in the US, which is a large remaining inequity.
