Biden's Border Plan to Curb Migration Amid Lifting of Pandemic Restrictions

The US government plans to establish new immigration processing centers in Guatemala and Colombia to discourage migrants from making the dangerous journey to the southern border. The Biden administration will apply tougher enforcement measures for those who cross the US-Mexico border illegally, including more deportations and expedited removal. The administration expects to stop enforcing the pandemic border restrictions known as Title 42 on May 11th, which have been used more than 2 million times to quickly expel migrants without giving them a chance to seek asylum. The White House is also pushing ahead with a controversial rule that would make it more difficult for migrants to get asylum if they cross the border illegally after passing through Mexico or another country along the way.
