Massachusetts Governor Deploys National Guard to Address Migrant Crisis

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey has activated up to 250 members of the Massachusetts National Guard to assist with the influx of migrants in the state. With approximately 6,000 families currently in emergency shelters, the National Guard will help coordinate services such as food, transportation, and medical care. They will also assist with enrolling children in schools and work with newly created regional rapid response teams. The move comes after the governor declared a state of emergency due to the strain on the shelter system. The migrants arriving in Massachusetts are part of the international migrant crisis and are exacerbating the state's existing housing crunch.
