The Future of US Immigration Policy Amid Title 42 Expiration and Biden's Border Policy

The Title 42 rule, which allowed the US to quickly expel migrants at the US-Mexico border since 2020, has ended. Asylum seekers will now be allowed to request asylum again at the border and will be interviewed by immigration officers. The Biden administration expects more migrants will be crossing initially and has relied on providing more legal pathways for migrants to get to the US and toughening border security to try to stop irregular crossings. Biden is also adopting a rule that would generally deny asylum to migrants who first travel through another country before arriving at the border with Mexico.
