White House and DHS Collaborate to Address Migrant Crisis in Massachusetts

The White House is sending a team of Homeland Security members to Massachusetts to assess the migrant crisis situation and find ways to improve efficiencies and support communities addressing the needs of migrants. The decision comes after Rep. Jake Auchincloss requested an assessment team to see the challenges firsthand. Governor Maura Healey has declared a state of emergency and the state currently houses migrants in hotels under the right-to-shelter law. The Biden administration has provided federal grant funding to support recently arrived migrants in Massachusetts. The White House will coordinate with local officials to determine best practices and ways in which the federal government can support the state until Congress takes action on immigration reform.
