China has criticized the United States for providing $345 million in military aid to Taiwan, accusing the US of turning the island into an "ammunition depot" and increasing the threat of war in the Taiwan Strait. Taiwan, which China claims as its own territory, has reported tracking six Chinese navy ships near its shores. The aid package includes weapons drawn from US military stockpiles and aims to bolster Taiwan's defense against a potential Chinese invasion. China and Taiwan have been divided since 1949, and Taiwan has never been governed by China's Communist Party.
