Mexico has surpassed China as the leading source of goods imported to the United States for the first time in over two decades, with the value of Mexican imports rising nearly 5% to over $475 billion while Chinese imports tumbled 20% to $427 billion. This shift reflects growing tensions between the U.S. and China, as well as U.S. efforts to import from countries closer to home. The Biden administration has encouraged "friend-shoring" and "reshoring" of production, leading to a shift away from reliance on Chinese factories. However, some Chinese manufacturers have established factories in Mexico to take advantage of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement.
