Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich was arrested in Russia on suspicion of espionage, the first time a US journalist has been detained on accusations by Moscow of spying since the Cold War. The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times have condemned the arrest and called for Gershkovich's immediate release. The US government has also expressed concern and is seeking consular access. The National Press Club has called on Russia to release Gershkovich and urged action from the State Department.
