California exonerates two wrongly convicted men.

Two men who were wrongly convicted of attempted murder in California and served nearly 17 years in prison were declared innocent by a judge. They were freed in 2020 after a state appeals court panel vacated their convictions. The actual shooter, Chad Brandon McZeal, confessed during the new trial. The men will receive $900,000 each under a new law that guarantees compensation for defendants who have their cases thrown out and also allows them to present evidence proving their innocence. The case was the first brought under this law.
