Alec Baldwin's Legal Woes Deepen as 'Rust' Lawsuit Proceeds

Alec Baldwin's attempt to have a civil case dismissed over the fatal shooting of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was denied by a New Mexico court. The judge also denied a motion to stay the matter until the criminal trial is over. Baldwin and the production companies are facing a lawsuit for "negligent and reckless conduct" from Rust crew members. The criminal trial of armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, originally scheduled for January 2024, has been delayed due to scheduling issues. Baldwin, who was pointing the gun when it discharged, killing Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza, had the charges against him dropped in April but they could be refiled later. A forensics report commissioned by special prosecutors rejected Baldwin's claim that he never pulled the trigger.
