Minneapolis Settles Derek Chauvin Lawsuits for Nearly $9 Million.

Minneapolis has agreed to pay $8.9 million to settle two lawsuits involving former police officer Derek Chauvin, who was charged with killing George Floyd in 2020. The lawsuits stemmed from 2017 arrests, where two people alleged that Chauvin pressed his knee into their necks years before the same tactic was fatal during his arrest of Floyd. Chauvin had already been convicted criminally on federal charges related to one of the incidents and pleaded guilty in 2021. He was not charged in the other case.
