The mother of Kenneka L. Jenkins, a teenager found dead in a hotel freezer in 2017, has settled a multimillion-dollar lawsuit with the owners and operators of the Chicago-area hotel. Tereasa Martin, the mother, is set to receive about $3.7 million, while other family members will receive $1.2 million and $1.5 million. The settlement also includes attorney fees and funeral costs. Jenkins's cause of death was determined to be hypothermia due to cold exposure, with alcohol and topiramate intoxication listed as contributing factors. The lawsuit alleged that the hotel failed to respond adequately to complaints about noise and a high number of occupants in the room where the party took place.
