Ex-Theranos COO avoids immediate incarceration on surrender deadline.

Former Theranos COO Ramesh "Sunny" Balwani has delayed his incarceration on multiple fraud convictions on the day he was ordered to report to custody by filing a notice in a California district court asserting his right to remain free pending an appeal of his convictions. Balwani was convicted on twelve counts of fraud and conspiracy against Theranos investors and customers in July 2021 and was sentenced to nearly 13 years in prison in December. He argues that his jury trial was unfair for multiple reasons and is appealing his convictions.
