US Judge Upholds Venture Capital Fund's Grants for Black Women Entrepreneurs

A federal judge in Atlanta has rejected a request to block a venture capital fund, Fearless Fund, from awarding grants exclusively to businesses led by Black women. The case was brought by Edward Blum, an anti-affirmative action activist known for challenging race-conscious college admissions policies. Blum's organization argued that the fund's grant program was racially exclusive and violated nondiscrimination laws. However, the judge ruled that the program was protected by the First Amendment as a form of speech. Fearless Fund aims to address racial disparities in venture capital and has invested nearly $27 million in 40 businesses led by minority women since its founding in 2019.
