Ken Paxton's Legal Troubles Escalate as Trial Approaches

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has moved one step closer to trial on long-delayed securities fraud charges. Defense lawyers and prosecutors agreed to meet again on October 6 to deal with pending motions and set a trial date for the 2015 charges. Paxton, who has denied wrongdoing, faces two counts of securities fraud and one count of failing to register with state securities regulators. The case has been delayed for years due to pretrial disputes, but a recent ruling settled the venue dispute and moved Paxton closer to trial. Additionally, Paxton is scheduled to begin an impeachment trial in the Texas Senate next month.
