NC State Trooper Indicted for First-Degree Murder in Deputy’s Death

A North Carolina State Highway Patrol sergeant, Nekime Matu Oxendine, 44, has been indicted on first-degree murder charges in the March fatal shooting of Cumberland County Sheriff’s Captain Adam Bean at a Hope Mills home. Oxendine is held without bond in Moore County and remains on administrative leave as internal and criminal investigations proceed. The State Bureau of Investigation completed its work and handed findings to a special prosecutor. Authorities say Bean, a Cumberland County deputy since 2006, was shot after a confrontation involving Oxendine’s vehicle; Bean died at the scene and was later honored at a VALOR Awards ceremony.
