Trooper injured, suspect killed in Asheville shooting

A North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper was shot at by a stranded motorist he was trying to help on Interstate 26 in Asheville. The trooper, Jeffrey L. Dunlap, returned fire and killed the 57-year-old motorist, Wesley Taylor. The trooper was not seriously injured as the bullet hit his ballistic vest. The trooper has been released from the hospital and is now on administrative duty.
