30-inch NC-55 water main break disrupts water for 50,000 in Cary and Morrisville

A 30-inch water main break on NC Highway 55 near Cary has disrupted water service for about 50,000 residents in Cary and Morrisville. NC-55 is closed in both directions between Jenks/Old Jenks and Lewey/Turner Creek; a boil-water advisory is in effect and residents are advised to boil water for one minute or use bottled water. Officials say no harmful bacteria have been detected yet, with restoration expected by around 7 a.m.
