Colwash Fire near Prosser Expands to 8,000 Acres, Evacuations Ordered

An 8,000-acre Colwash wildfire west of Prosser threatens homes and prompted evacuations east of the Yakima-Benton County line as ash rains on the Tri-Cities; Red Cross opened a shelter at Prosser High School, five wildland strike teams and state officials mobilized to contain the fire, whose cause is under investigation amid morning thunderstorms.
