TL;DR
Mystery groups have entered New York City's sewer system on multiple occasions since early May, prompting officials to warn that sewer exploration is illegal and extremely dangerous due to gases, flooding risks, unstable surfaces and confined spaces; no injuries have been reported, and investigators suspect the intruders may be scavenging for valuables; residents should avoid manholes and call police if they see activity.
