Century-old 36-inch West Hollywood water main ruptures, flooding Sunset Boulevard

A century-old 36-inch water main ruptured in West Hollywood, flooding Sunset Boulevard and causing property damage. LADWP crews removed a 25-foot section of damaged pipe and have pumped out about 200,000 gallons as they prepare replacement of the roughly 10-mile pipeline (with a total release estimated around 17 million gallons). Full construction isn’t expected to begin until 2031, and some residents will be served by an eight-inch backup line during repairs; authorities say all residents are safe and area closures remain in place.
