Pinellas Beaches Face Worsening Situation with Flooding and Closed Access

Pinellas County in Florida is experiencing severe flooding due to storm surge and high tides caused by Hurricane Idalia. The Gulf beaches and west side of the county are particularly affected, with roads closed and residents urged to avoid the area. Emergency Management Director Cathie Perkins reported numerous road closures and power outages, with over 1,800 people seeking shelter. Residents are advised to stay off the roads, turn off home breakers, and take precautions against floodwaters. The situation is expected to worsen throughout the day.
