Revised Death Toll: 97 Lives Lost in Maui Wildfires

The death toll from the wildfires that swept through Maui, Hawaii last month has been revised down to 97, with 31 people still missing. Hawaii Governor Josh Green attributed the decrease in the death toll to advanced genetics testing conducted by Department of Defense anthropologists to ensure the accurate identification of victims. The grassland fire, which started on August 8, destroyed or damaged around 2,200 buildings in the tourist resort town of Lahaina.
