Addressing the Ethics Crisis in the Supreme Court.

The Senate Judiciary Committee will hear testimony on Supreme Court ethics from various witnesses, but no member of the court will be present. Recent disclosures about the conduct of some justices have raised concerns, including Justice Clarence Thomas' failure to disclose gifts from a personal friend and Chief Justice John Roberts' wife's employment as a legal recruiter. Ethics experts argue that the court needs a code of conduct, and the judicial conference needs to do a better job of explaining when gifts and personal hospitality need to be disclosed. However, there is little likelihood that any proposals for a code of conduct will pass in the current political climate.
