Angela Alsobrooks Wins Historic Maryland Senate Race
TL;DR
Angela Alsobrooks, the Democratic County Executive of Prince George's County, defeated former Republican Governor Larry Hogan in the Maryland Senate race, maintaining the seat for the Democrats. Alsobrooks will replace retiring Senator Ben Cardin, becoming one of the only Black women in the Senate alongside Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester. Hogan's unexpected candidacy forced Democrats to spend over $30 million in the race, despite his moderate stance and support for codifying Roe v. Wade. Alsobrooks faced scrutiny over tax exemptions but secured the Democratic nomination with strong party backing.
