AP-NORC Poll: Majority Against Social Security and Medicare Cuts

Most Americans oppose cutting Social Security and Medicare benefits, and support raising taxes on households earning over $400,000 to keep Medicare running. The majority of Americans reject raising the eligibility age for Social Security and Medicare benefits. The annual Social Security and Medicare trustees report warns that both programs will run out of cash to pay full benefits within the next decade. While most support increasing taxes on households earning more than $400,000 a year to pay for Medicare, Republicans are closely divided on the issue.
