Benson Triumphs in Michigan Democratic Governor Primary, Sets Sights on James
TL;DR
Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson won Michigan’s Democratic gubernatorial primary by a wide margin over Chris Swanson, advancing to the November general election to face Republican John James; her familiarity as state secretary of state and strong fundraising helped her path, while the mostly cordial primary contrasted with ongoing questions about ties to data centers linked to her husband. Benson is set to launch a robust general-election campaign with a planned $10 million ad buy, focusing on kitchen-table issues like costs, wages and rights.
