Bergdahl conviction stands after appeals court says judge lacked authority

A federal appeals court ruled that a judge did not have the power to overturn Bowe Bergdahl’s military conviction, leaving his desertion and misbehavior charges intact after he was captured by Taliban-linked forces, repeatedly tortured, and released in 2014. Bergdahl pleaded guilty in 2017 and was dishonorably discharged; prosecutors had sought 14 years in prison.
