California Gov. Newsom Signs Bill to Raise Minimum Wage for Health Care Workers to $25 per Hour

California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed several bills into law, including ones that allow legislative staff to unionize, increase the minimum wage for fast-food workers to $20 an hour, extend paid sick leave to a minimum of five days, establish an 'Ebony Alert' for missing Black women and children, place new limits on concealed carry firearm permit holders, define child sex trafficking as a "serious felony," impose an 11% tax on firearms and ammunition for violence prevention programs, require employers to develop workplace violence prevention plans, allow religious institutions to build housing projects, prohibit excessive security deposits, extend affordable housing projects, disclose carbon emissions and financial risks associated with climate change, outlaw certain additives in processed foods, prohibit book bans based on gender and race topics, and allow child sex trafficking and abuse survivors to sue social media companies.
