California Governor Vetoes Bill for Unemployment Pay to Strikers

California Governor Gavin Newsom has vetoed a bill that would have provided unemployment benefits to striking workers, citing the state's already substantial unemployment trust fund debt of nearly $20 billion. The bill, which had received support from labor unions and fellow Democrats, aimed to make workers on strike for at least two weeks eligible for unemployment checks. With the exception of New York and New Jersey, most states do not offer unemployment benefits to striking workers.
