A task force in California has approved proposals for reparations for African Americans, including cash payments or their equivalent, due to decades of over-policing, mass incarceration, and redlining. However, Democratic Senator Steven Bradford has warned Black residents not to expect large payouts, as lawmakers haven't even debated where the money would come from. The task force's proposals also include the creation of an agency to help residents research their family's history, promote financial literacy, and preserve historic cultural sites. The state is facing a projected $22.5 billion budget deficit.
