California Reparations Task Force Approves Payments and Apology to Black Residents

A task force in California has approved recommendations for the payments of reparations to Black Californians for injustices and discrimination stemming from slavery. The recommendations include restitution for health care disparities, housing discrimination, and mass incarceration and overpolicing. The task force has also called for a state office to process reparations claims, updating language in the state's Constitution, and removing racial bias and discriminatory practices in standardized testing. The recommendations will be presented to the Legislature by the deadline of July 1.
